Spreading of Technology

I will be discussing the programs that give computers to third world countries.  It seems like a great idea and there are a lot of positives but what are some negatives?

A negative could be that it exposes the children to different types of cultures and the older population might not be ok with that.  Also, if the government of the nation does not like what is being looked at on the computer that too can cause friction between the population and the government.

What are your thoughts on these type of programs? Are they all good?

  1. I think it would be good only because of the education people would be able to receive.

  2. I understand your points and believe they are plausible, but overall I believe it would be very beneficial. If the current country these children are in is impoverished, then that means the leaders of their country took a wrong turn somewhere in taking care of their people. So an introduction to a new culture might be a seed in growing better leaders of that country.

  3. In everything that is done to help those in under developed countries there is always some that do not want the change or keep their citizens from getting the full experience. In China for instance the government filters the citizens internet content. I do not think there will ever be a country where its citizens have zero resistance against its government. I think we should at least try to help those who are struggling in our country as well as others be able to learn and be more efficient through the use of technology. After all they are people just like us they just live some where different than we do.

  4. Sure, there are always going to be some downsides to every action or plan, but I would say that the goods really outweigh the bads in this case. For children in third world countries to be able to have access to this type of technology does more than let them learn. It allows them to have the opportunity to leave and get out of the life in that third world country.
